CASK BEERS & REAL ALE
Discover the True Taste of British Beer: Real Ale, Brewed Right
At Birmingham Brewing Company, we’re proud to brew and serve real ales that celebrate traditional British brewing. Our cask conditioned beers are crafted in small batches, served fresh from the cask, and brewed right here in Birmingham with care, precision, and pride.
Whether you’re looking for real ales in the UK, a perfectly pulled pint of cask ale, or a taste of tradition with a modern twist—you’re in the right place.
What Is Cask Ale?
Cask ale, also known as cask conditioned beer or real ale, is a type of beer that undergoes secondary fermentation in the cask it’s served from. It’s unfiltered, unpasteurised, and contains active yeast in the cask, which creates natural carbonation without the use of added carbon dioxide.
Served at cellar temperature (typically 11–13°C), cask conditioned ale is drawn from the serving cask using a traditional beer engine and hand pumped at the bar. The result is smooth, complex, and full of life. This style of draught beer offers a softer mouthfeel and deeper connection to the brewing process than pressurised alternatives.
Unlike keg beer, which is force-carbonated and served under pressure using COâ‚‚, cask ale is a living, breathing product that evolves in the cellar. Every pint is proof that patience and proper care produce exceptional beer.
And while the format is different, our beers remain consistent—whether it’s cask, keg, can, or bottle, the base beer is the same. It’s the conditioning method that changes the experience. And when it comes to depth and drinkability, cask is king.
Don’t Be Fooled by the Imitations
With the rise of terms like “fresh cask” and other misleading marketing phrases, it’s become harder for drinkers to know what’s truly cask conditioned. Many of these products are filtered, pasteurised, and carbonated with CO₂—not genuine real ale.
Backed by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), traditional cask beer is defined by its method: live beer, undergoing fermentation in its container, and served without extraneous carbonation.
At Birmingham Brewing Company, we honour this tradition. Our real ale casks are conditioned, handled, and served with care—no shortcuts, no gimmicks. Just honest beer that lives up to its name
